Midnightstar "Midas Touch" (DJ Platurn+Kat 010 Remix) 12"
Picked up this 12" today at Amoeba. Dope remix by DJ Platurn+Kat010
of Midnightstar's "Midas Touch". Saw DJ Platurn perform an all vinyl set
@ The Cellar "Skratchpad" yesterday. Awesome! Here are some pics from
skratchpad (excuse the fuzz that's my low-fi camera on phone)
Here's a nice little video+audio sampling of the song

Jazzman+Serato 7" with Vestex HandyTraxPortable Turntable
The cycle is complete...just tested try this 7" I just picked up with Serato+Vestex Handy Trax Portable Turntable combo. Success...the feel takes some time getting use to...mixing+light skratching is possible! Vinyl side is a cover song of Marvin Gaye "What's going on?" by Mr. Clean & The Soul Inc. Reverse side is Serato Control Tone.
Bobby Caldwell...What You Won't Do For Love!
One of my fav samples/songs..."What You Won't Do For Love". Pretty juiced when i found the special heart shaped 45" a few years ago. After my Thursday gig this poster caught my eye...the venue is just at end of the block from The Celler where I DJ at. He's doing a V-Day performance there on Sunday!

A generation reflecting on growing up in 80's crack epidemic. Good introduction
if you don't already know..."betta asks somebody!"

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part II Purple Vinyl!
Just picked this up from Amoeba today, been meaning to grab this since the cd came out.
Word on the streets is that there are only 2000 copies of this "PURPLE" vinyl out. Once those sellout, probably gonna be regular black vinyl. Superb sequal to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx!
Some standout tracks I'm feelin...just to name a few!

Interesting Find: Hiroshima S/T LP
First time I heard about this band was in 05 in an Asian American Studies class.
We're watching "Cruisin J Town", a documentary which featured the band.
Found their self titled LP yesterday. Their sound Jazz Fusion East+West!
Philly MC Snacky Chan sampled them on a track off this LP called "DA-DA" on a track called "Chronic Whisper".
DJ Premier & The Alchemist have also touched on some of Hiroshima catalog...surprising flips of tracks! Time to do some
research on AA artists of 70's, pho wit dat!

Finds of the Day: Herb Alpert "Rise" & Evelyn Champagne KIng "Smooth Talk"
Herb Alpert "Rise" LP...particularly the song "Rise"
Known sample of B.I.G.'s Hypnotize...the bassline!
Did not know there was an actually video for the original
track but here it is.
Evelyn Champagne King "Smooth Talk" LP...particularly "The Show Is Over" which was sampled by Ice Cube's "You Know How We Do It". Got both the regular release (on the left)+the repackage for woolsworth or whatever special buy(on the right) covers. Oh ooooo oh oooo ohhhh!
Canadian Invasion? New Belly ft Drake "Make It Go" & New T-Pain & Young Jeezy "Reverse Cowgirl"
Last century we saw the British invasion influence on U.S. popular music. Could Drake be leading a Canadian invasion this century? Over the years Canadian Artists have been making buzz within the underground but saw no further exposure outide of this cirle. But with all the buzz over Drake last year, things could be changing.
Here's an article/interview Canuck MC/Producer K-os about the current state facing Canadian Artists.
Aite first time listening to this T-Pain song my thoughts where "is this serious? him and Lonely Island guys again" but it's a legit song with Young Jeezy. It's aite...not mind blowing on musical side...but this can be drop at the clubs towards the wind down bump and grind time!

Find of the Day! Eugene McDaniels "Headless Heroes Of The Apocalypse"
Copped this for 8 bucks...not bad. The copy I have is the original US release (label Alantic Green, White, and Red), not the US promo which label is white with black lettering and says "Sample Play Not For Sale" on it). Not the reissue (which has a bar code on the rear cover). There's a UK Release too (doesn't have the Alantic Records Logo on the front bottom right hand corner)
Folks that have sampled off this LP
* "Jagger the Dagger"
A Tribe Called Quest - "Interludes from People's Instinctive Travels"
Beatnuts - "Third of the Trio"
Down South - "Tractors, Rakes, & Hoes"
Gravediggaz - "Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide"
Masta Ace - "Jeep Ass Niggah"
Non-Phixion - "Full Monty"
Organized Konfusion - "Black Sunday"
* "Headless Heroes"
Beastie Boys - "Get it Together"
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - "Soul Brother #1"
* "Supermarket Blues"
Jungle Brothers - "I'm in Love with Indica"
Quasimoto - "Return of the Loop Digga"
* "Freedom Death Dance"
Organized Konfusion - "Black Sunday"

Free School "Grey Goose" the new "Shots"?
Lil Jon+LMFAO "Shots" Pavlovian drinking anthem was redonk
last year...still is...when ever you play this song...people
lose their shit running to the bar and back on the dancefloor
going bananas. This is a new joint from Freeschool called "Greygoose"
(whatcha' sippin' on) featuring Kelis & Apl de App of Black Eyed Peas.
This song has that same potential...only time will tell.
This all reminds me of Afrika Bambattataa (Godfather of Hip Hop)
talks on mind control and the music industry. From a DJ's prespective
it's intriguing yet disturbing at the same time. Like an accident
you can't take your eyes away from.
Sorry for infecting your brains...but here ya go lol!
New Tracks Red Cafe & Fabolous "I'm Ill"/Memphis Bleek "Still Ill"/ Redman "Oh My"
Just got these promos...not bad feelin all three tracks.
Red Cafe+Fabolous "I'm Ill" joint got that Jay-Z sample
from "A Billie" on the chorus, Obie Trice and Rob Base sample on the
beats.
Memphis Bleek "Still Ill" has a nice breakbeat instrumental. Sounds like the "Funky Drummer" could be wrong...that ish been sampled so many times!
I like the sneaky line "on to the next one/yeah Hov I'm off that"
Redman "Oh My"
Soulful sample with half timed rhythm...Reggie Noble doing what he does best "make the ladies say OH MY"
