Digital Digging...came across this group by way of looking up Mayer Hawthrone. "Now On" is a trio based out of LA. Member IX Lives is the son of Larry “Squirrel” Demps of The Dramatics. Their sound is experimental: Hip Hop/Soul/Futurism...Feel good music. As far as I know "Tomorrow Already" is the 2nd or 3rd release + they have a mixtape."Tomorrow Already" was release in 08 (looking for slept on music is my modus operandi) and has there eye catching Alternative covers feature the each member. That's what caught my eye. I'm a sucker for "Porno Chic". Sleezy yet Classy!
Found this yesterday. The OG copy! It was raining hard, had to hide out...was close enough to a record shop. Digged their used bin and found this gem amongst others! Made my day...and when I left the store...rain had gone away...Ominous! Issac Hayes aka The Chef is still a bad mother "shut yo mouth"!
Some slaps here! On that "Minneapolis Sound" tip (think Prince, Morris Day & The Time etc) Jesse Johnson+Bay Legend Sly Stone. Man you gotta have some swag to rock the threads they was rocking back then!
His uncle does security @ The Cellar where I DJ at. 4-tay came through just kicking it, chillin. Got introduced. Played a Bay set...played a couple of his songs. He was looking for spots to celebrate his B-Day. His uncle told me I've been tapped to do his B-Day @ The Cellar next Tuesday...lol which coincides with me kicking off a new Monthly 1st Tuesdays "Kutting Edgez" (more info on that...stay tuned). So if ya'll free come through Feb 2nd celebrate a bay area legend Rappin 4 Tay+ Kick off my new monthly 1st Tuesdays "Kutting Edgez"YA DIG!
David Guetta Electro-House Superstar DJ had one of the biggest DJ Nightmares...the audio dies out in front of a club crowd...you're fumbling around trying get the sound back...looking like an idiot...some cluber happens to be recording you, now you're on youtube and blogs for posterity to remember your little fuck up...he must have been thinkin' FM!
Great Track...Bobby Womack+Mos Def bring the funk to this track...notice the interpolation of Funkadelic "(Not Just) knee Deep" bass riff. New album is called "Plastic Beach" out on March 9th as the current release date. Their Record Label Prez describes this song as "a dark, twisted track that sounds like the 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack on MDMA." What you know bout music suit and tie guy...shhhhhhhiit!
Found this yesterday @ Amoeba SF. Been looking for this for a while to the point that I thought it doesn't exist anymore. Last year Dec 09 was blessed to dj @ $hort's Bodygaurd's birthday bash @ The Cellar...said what's sup to $hort...totally sliped my mind was gonna ask him about the existence of a proper "Freaky Tales" vinyl release. Well with this find my questions and search has been answered.
After seeing the 45king set with 45's on the Vestex Handy Trax Portable Turntable, an idea hit me. I'm guesing I'm not the only one who has thought of this or has tested this out. I had made a slipmat and plastic slip 7" size to put on the platter. Hooked the Handy Trax to serato box+mixer. Had some issues with sound at first but with some patience tinkering around with the setup menu and I was on my way to mix it up(key: put it on line in the setup menu). Handy Trax is belt drive so had to really manhandle to CV to beatmatch...it can hold a the beat with a bit of physical monitoring of the speeds. Wanna test this out at a house party/bbq etc...all i need is Handy Trax+Serato+Mixer+laptop+hard drive and a stereo system with line in and I'm in the mix. Would like to get my hands on that special 7" Serato Control Vinyl that would be ill but the regular 12" control vinyl works fine.
Came home one day this past week or the week before...saw this in the elevator...it just gave me a chuckle. Thought to myself "really you gonna mark your stash box with a sharpie marker with a arrow pointing to where your product is? The person on the receiving end is so unreliable they need a sign?" It's sad but comical lol!
"sample whatever you want" that's right...and if you get caught=free publicity. Look at Dangermouse...honestly did anyone know who he was till the Grey Album? EMI came after him (they thought they was correcting wrongs, they had no idea they just launch an unknown artist's career)...he's now getting cartoon network money and other big gigs and endorsements...so it balances out. You gotta flip the sample "right", use trouble with industry time to promote yourself and your werzs, enter pop culture zeitgeist, deals, endrosments etc...That's the new Blueprint!
Haunting track...perfect for 2010 cityscape. Gil-Scott Heron got a new album in the works getting ready to be released called "I'm New Here". This track "Me & The Devil" you can see Jay-Z, Common, Talib, Mos Def, Nas on for a tight remix!
If you saw the demo of Ableton+Serato "The Bridge" from the link in previous post below...and thought OMG that's pretty awesome (or not). Hold your horses cause there was more unveiled over the weekend at NAMM. A new 4 Channel Mixer and Scratch Live 2.0 was announced. Check it out!
The new version is aite...eh updated whatever you wanna say...but the original Mark Morrison for the win...Hands down! Mark Morrison "Return of the Mack" one of my favorite tracks form the 90's. Always rocks the crowd...if they're old enough to remember it.
I remember reading about this set 45 King did on the Vestex Handy Trax portable turntable a while back in an issue of Wax Poetics. Saw a pic in the article, thought to myself "no way, really?". Seeing this video just...one word inspiring. Looking at my Handy Trax differently...check it out for yourself if you haven't seen this!

Interesting track. To me it's sounds like a Rob Zombie track with Jay (from Jay and Silent Bob) high pitch or de-tuned vocals. Like I said Interesting track, peep it(remember that little slango ha)!
Ghettoblaster with ipod dock. Remember the over one shoulder jansport backpack look? Man the stress people put on their backs...all in the name of cool, LOL!
