Bushwick Bill's "Drwahbushwickching" sampled a Vietnamese Song

When I first heard this song. It hit me, "That's a Vietnamese Song!"
I didn't know the title, or artist. Had to ask pop's, played the song, and he ID it. Googled for the song...prefect match.

I've been interested in finding some Viet samples myself. It's tough, cause alot of Vietnamese music pre war have been lost, destroyed. What remains over here in the States is alot cassette tapes, variety shows (Paris by Night, Asia, Thuy Nga). I did manage to find two 7" from a box of records that was going to be recycled. The story of how those 7" made it here States' side must have been amazing. Cats like Onra have went back to Vietnam and found what left of records, tapes, reels. It's all kind of inspiring me to take a look at my own cultural music for inspiration.

Bushwick and whoever was behind the production, must have heard this sample from local Vietnamese owned shops in Texas. There's a sizable Vietnamese community down there in Texas (ala the famous jeweler to Hip Hop Stars Johnny Dang aka TV Johnny is down there).

With out further ado here where Bushwick Bill's "Drwahbushwickching" sample comes from.

How to mod a Vestax Handy Trax to a DIY QFO

Found the how to instruction, from the guy in previous post. English isn't his first language, as he states it himself in the video, so if you can look at the images, and decipher what he's saying. You're on your way to a DIY QFO.

Vestax Handy Trax QFO Style Mod

This is ill yo! Somebody mod their Vestax Handy Trax portable turntable to be similar to
a QFO.  They put in a crossfader, and an extra channel volume knob. Skratch on the go!

Cutting 12" Control Vinyl down to 7" Control Vinyl - Serato+Portable Turntable Set Up Update

Started this Serato+Vestax Handy Trax Portable Turntable setup project in 2010.
SEE HERE
I knew I could not have been the only one thinking of doing this.

And lo and behold I found someone else on youtube experimenting with it too.
A DJ Chilly C has also been working with the Serato+Portable Turntable setup.

We both we're inspired after watching 45 king set on two Vestax Handy Trax.

Except he ups the ante. He has made his own 7" control vinyl.
He has done this by cutting regular 12" cv down to 7" cv.

I never thought to do this. I had to hunt down a copy of Jazzman/Serato 7" CV.

This reminds me of the whole DJ Cash Money and Jazzy Jeff situation
of who created the transformer scratch. In the end both had different
variations on the same scratch technique.

Don't know what tools DJ Chilly C used to cut his CV down to 7".
But I'm gonna figure it out. :)

Here are DJ Chilly C's demo vids check em out.

How to guide: Portable Turntable with Serato SL setup

Ok so here is a how to setup your portable turntable to work with Serato Scratch Live.

Things you need
1. Portable Turntable (I use the Vestax Handy Trax, but you can use Numark or other brands out there, as long as it has RCA Line Out)
Photobucket
2. DJ Mixer.
3. RCA cable to hook turntable line out to SL Box Turntable/Line In.
4. Serato SL Box & SL software installed on PC/Mac
5. Vinyl time code (I got this 7" Serato Time Code, but you can use regular size 12" Time Code Vinyl)
JazzmanSerato7inch
6. Sound System to plug mixer into.

Hookup everything like you would a normal setup ie turntable RCA into sl box, sl box into mixer, mixer into sound system. Oh and important thing turn up the volume located on your portable to the max or you won't get any sound!

Software Setup
1. Click Setup menu on top right hand area.
Vssl setup1
2. Click the Hardware tab.
vssl5

3. Got to Audio Input Level menu on the right hand side. Click to Line.
vssl6

And you should be good to go.
Like this.

I got one portable, so I use the one turntable mix setup. For example, one deck is set to internal, and swap with the reverse input control button (on top left side of SL screen) for control of deck for upcoming cued song. Or one deck internal and using instant doubles, swap songs that way.

For Traktor folks...I'm guessing you can do it too...just fiddle with your software setup/input settings.
