The "Heartbeat" (1981) by Taana Gardner is one of my fav samples. Mixed by legendary NYC DJ Larry Levan. Lots of people have done their take on it. From De La Soul to KRS One. Recently it's even gotten a Nu Disco Reworking= Homework "Hudson Square (Exploited)". I wouldn't be shocked to see this sample pop up again soon.

Happy Birthday to the one and only J Dilla. Thus kickstarts Dilla Month (also Black History Month). It's been 6 years since his passing, but his music and influence can still be felt on music of today (ala Flying Lotus, Onra, etc). He's our generations Mozart, Duke Ellington, and Miles Davis.
